This morning found some tadpoles happily swimming around as well - wonder if they are off of the waterlillies we just put in as I hadn't noticed any spawn around. Looks like at least two of the baby fish are still with us, as I've seen two out together.

That's good news, Msmum. I guess the tadpoles have travelled via the waterlilies. How lovely.

We were pleasantly surprised to find not only had a spawn occurred, but the incredible growth of our original stockers.
When we stocked our fish 15 months ago, the Redear sunfish were nothing more than 1" - 2" long. Then, we sampled the water 3 weeks ago with a minnow trap. We caught 3 Redear that were about 2-1/4" long. It was confusing. Were these the original stockers that had only grown a little bit...or....had those original stockers grown large enough in 1 year to become mature enough to spawn? Neither really seemed realistic. I questioned a friend that knows this stuff and he said that he was certain that those tiny stockers had grown large enough in one year and did, indeed, spawn this past spring. What we caught in the minnow trap was their offspring, already growing like crazy, too.
I was still in disbelief....until this past weekend.
We went to the pond and saw, for the first time, some fairly large fish just hanging around next to the dock. They were about 6" - 7" long....and, yes, they were Redear sunfish. I was shocked. Those 1" - 2" had grown incredibly over 15 months.

This link is the video of the big boys we found this past weekend. They run 6" - 7".

You must be so pleased to know that the fish are thriving, Brettski. What a wonderful achievement.

Holy cow Brettski - that's amazing growth! They must be happy in their new home! Appreciative little fish rewarding you like that

Now get some trout in there, we'll pack our fly rods and meet you there

Hi Brettski, I had to google Redear sunfish as I have never heard of them.

It's always good to hear a success story.
