Paper Potter

Has anybody ever used one of these Paper potters to make their own pots from old newspapers?. It reads like a good idea as you can plant them straight into the garden and the paper will rot down

Not personally but my father used to use them and found they worked well (I will add for most things, as it is a few years ago now and my memory is not so good any more! wish i could only remember to take the ginseng and ginka biloba! )

Oooh not heard of those, John. I guess they work a bit like the cardboard tubes which I seem to be collecting.

It looks interesting, John. Let us know if you get one. I googled and found quite a few at cheaper prices!

I have been fiddling about making some paper pots using a large tubular ex biscuit tin and a plant pot. I will try to take some pics and give instructions tomorrow, John.

Ta da! Here is Kits' Version (Cost: Nothing!)
  1. Take a double sheet from a paper such as The Times (for size!)
  2. Fold it in half horizontally
  3. Place your shaper (my biscuit tin!) half way down the paper
  4. Roll the paper round the shaper and tuck the ends in at the bottom
  5. Place shaper into receptacle (plant pot) and press hard to firm the paper
  6. Carefully remove shaper from receptacle
  7. Even more carefully remove shaper from inside paper
  8. Voila! A pot!
I show one filled with peat and the empty one is the one I made yesterday.

I really should apply to go on Blue Peter ...
