Question Whats the best lawn seed/ feed for a generally rainy and partly shady environment?

My garden is small, it is shaded in parts and the rest doesn't get a huge amount of sun because a big 200 year old tree shades some of our garden.
The garden does enough sun to grow grass. plants and flowers though but we do sometimes have probs with our grass.

I live in Newcastle, England if that helps anyone decide which seed/ feed to use.

Any tips on sowing would be gratefully appreciated as I am a beginner. I did sow some seeds last year by digging over the soil where the patches were, then putting seeds down, then I spread a light amount of compost over the top and patted the compost down.
Am I doing the right/ wrong thing or can anyone give me anymore tips?

You can buy seeds that were designed to grow in shady areas.
Rake the bald sections throughly and sprinkle the seeds.
Cover over with top soil and keep well watered.
As I said there are strains that do better in shady areas but they should get some sun to really grow.

Hi Becca,
Johnsons do a lawn seed especially for shady places and you don't have to buy half a ton either!
Look at this link
If you do a Google search for "shady place lawn seed" you should get loads of hits and maybe even be able to source locally.
Good luck!
